Form Prepared by (full name) : R John Beavan Date Prepared : 2003-01-09 Report Type : UPDATE If Update: Previous Site Log : auck_20021202.log Modified/Added Sections : 3.5 1. Site Identification of the GNSS Monument Site Name : Whangaparaoa No 3 Four Character ID : AUCK Monument Inscription : none IERS DOMES Number : 50209M001 CDP Number : not assigned Monument Description : (PILLAR/BRASS PLATE/STEEL MAST/etc) Height of the Monument : (m) Monument Foundation : (STEEL RODS, CONCRETE BLOCK, ROOF, etc) Foundation Depth : (m) Marker Description : (CHISELLED CROSS/DIVOT/BRASS NAIL/etc) Date Installed : 1995-09-18 Geologic Characteristic : Sandstone/mudstone Bedrock Type : Sedimentary Bedrock Condition : Weathered Fracture Spacing : (1-10 cm/10-50 cm/50-200 cm/over 200 cm) Fault zones nearby : (YES/NO/Name of the zone) Distance/activity : (multiple lines) Additional Information : The site is in an area of early Miocene : (Waitemata group) sandstone and mudstone strata : with occasional volcaniclastic debris flows : (Parnell grit). The strata are superficially : folded. Basement is Jurassic greywacke at about : 200-300 m depth. : Monument construction. A hole was augered : through clayey soil to refusal at about 1.2 m : depth in compact sediments, and was widened at : the bottom by spade. A small amount of : concrete was placed at the bottom, then a 2.4 m : long by 30 cm O.D. concrete tube was placed : vertically in the hole. Three or four lengths : of reinforcing bar bent over at their bottom end : were placed inside the tube. Concrete was : poured to fill the hole external to the tube, : and the inside of the tube. A 15 cm diameter : stainless plate with protruding 5/8"-11 screw : was set exactly horizontal in the top of the : concrete. Height of pillar above pad is 1.27 m : to top corner of pillar, 1.28 m to the level of : the stainless plate. The top concrete surface : of the pillar was deliberately made uneven to : reduce resonance effects between the top of the : pillar and the antenna. : The surface of the stainless plate serves as : the height reference point. 2.
