This FAQ is attached to emails that notify site operators of format errors in site logs or RINEX data file headers. 0. Why am I receiving this email? The software chooses the person to be emailed from the site log in the following order: [1] Primary responsible agency contact (section 10) [2] Secondary reponsible agency contact [3] Primary local contact (section 9) [4] Secondary local contact. The first of these to contain an email address is the one that is used. If you believe you are not the correct person to receive such emails, please inform the proper contact and the IGS Central Bureau (igscb@igscb.jpl.nasa.gov). 1. What is the importance of correcting small errors? The IGS site logs must be in the proper machine-readable format to produce an accurate SINEX template for use by IGS analysts. Your help in correcting even small formatting errors is appreciated. 2. What do the errors mean? 2.1 "Unknown receiver name" The listed receiver name is not in the official list at http://igscb.jpl.nasa.gov/igscb/station/general/rcvr_ant.tab . Please find your receiver in this list and use the official name, taking care to get capital letters, hyphens, etc. exactly correct. If you do not find a listing for your receiver, please notify the IGS Central Bureau. 2.2 "Unknown antenna and/or dome name" Similar to question 2.1, please select antenna and dome codes from http://igscb.jpl.nasa.gov/igscb/station/general/rcvr_ant.tab . Dome codes belong in columns 17-20. Please place them here within the antenna specification, even though a separate Dome line also exists. 2.3 "Obsolete antenna name" Please do not use antenna names from a "Previously valid" list in http://igscb.jpl.nasa.gov/igscb/station/general/rcvr_ant.tab . Choose the corresponding new antenna name. 2.4 "Nonconforming or missing DOMES" All IGS stations should have an IERS DOMES number. DOMES numbers may be obtained from IERS by filling out a form available at http://lareg.ensg.ign.fr/ITRF/domesreq.html and sending it to domes@ensg.ign.fr. If you get this message and you have a DOMES number listed, please check the formatting. 2.5 "Date ... not in format dd-MMM-yyyy hh:mm UT" Please list dates in this format, for example: 31-DEC-1999 Correct! 31-12-1999 Not Correct! 12-31-1999 Not Correct! Do not leave parentheses around the date. 2.6 "Dates ... and ... are out of order" You have listed an equipment installed date which is earlier than the previous equipment removed date. Please check the dates. This may also indicate a date formatting problem as in 2.4. 2.7 "missing receiver firmware version" "missing receiver serial number" "missing antenna serial number" Please fill in the empty fields. If the entry is quite old and the knowledge has been lost, please fill in UNKNOWN. IMPORTANT: The serial number fields are 5 characters and firmware field is 11 characters. Please take this in mind when entering the data; for example, do not enter "S/N 12345" instead of "12345" since valuable information will be lost. 2.8 "Nonconforming or missing lat" (or lon, or elevation) "Nonconforming antenna height" Please follow the formats in ftp://igscb.jpl.nasa.gov/igscb/station/general/blank.log when completing these fields. Note that antenna height must be measured only from ARP! You may include heights to other points under "Additional Information." 2.9 "Central Bureau needs to define antenna ... in igs_01.pcv! (Not your problem)" Hopefully you will never receive this message! If you do, please feel free to remind igscb@igscb.jpl.nasa.gov to take action. 2.10 "Section number ... is duplicated" Take care that the information blocks are numbered correctly; for example, you should not have two Receiver Type blocks numbered 3.1. 3. messages regarding RINEX headers The fields in the RINEX header and the information in the site log should agree. The RINEX information is gathered from the most recent day of data available at CDDIS. 4. You have not answered my question Please contact igscb@igscb.jpl.nasa.gov with any comments or questions!
