The Division 8 is responsible for the measurement, the modelling and the forecasting of the ionospheric activity and its effects on technological systems based on radio waves. In particular, the Division 8 team develops research based products and services dedicated to the users of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) like GPS or Galileo. For example, the Division "Ionospheric Profiles" develops web pages which provide information about the influence of the ionospheric activity on the reliability of real time GNSS positioning. The main activities of the Division "Ionospheric Profiles" are: - the monitoring of the ionospheric activity and of cosmic rays at the Geophysical Observatory of Dourbes (Philippeville). - the modelling and short-term forecasting of the ionospheric activity and its effects on technological systems based on radio waves. - the development of products and services for GNSS users. The position The scientist hired will be responsible for the development of software for the monitoring of the ionospheric activity (Total Electron Content and free electron concentration) based on the combination of GNSS and ionosonde measurements. General profile: - University degree (Master or Ph. D.) in sciences. - Extended experience in ionosphere or in GNSS research. - Extended experience in scientific computing and scientific software development. - Ability to write publications and technical reports in English. - Ability to work both independently and in a team. Added value: - Practical experience in ionospheric tomography. - Practical experience in the monitoring of the ionospheric activity (Total Electron Content) based on GNSS measurements and/or ionosonde measurements. To apply for this position, send a motivation letter (in English) and a full CV as soon as possible and before January 26 2008 to: Prof. Reni Warnant Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium Avenue Circulaire, 3 B-1180 Brussels Belgium e-mail : R.Warnant@oma.be Tel: +32-2-373 02 51 The CV will contain at least: - the candidate's full coordinates. - the diplomas obtained. - a publication list in 4 categories : peer-reviewed in international journals, proceedings of international meetings, technical reports, others. - a list of presentations in international meetings. - a list of present and past scientific activities (with reference to the publication list). - a list of the different positions (jobs) since the beginning of the scientific career.
