We are seeking feedback on our proposal from any interested parties. Background: The CHAT monument is on poor ground (volcanic muds and clays - see IGS site log) and the site has poor communications via telephone. A new seismic station is being installed later this year on bedrock about 25 km north of CHAT. The seismic site will have VSAT communications using a newly available satellite. Proposal: We will colocate a new GNSS site, provisionally named CHTI (CHaTham Island), at the new seismic station. The new site will have a Trimble NetRS receiver and Trimble Zephyr Geodetic II antenna. The monument will be the UNAVCO short-braced style. The VSAT communications will allow real time data from the Chatham Islands (though with a few seconds delay due to the VSAT). We will continue to operate CHAT in parallel with CHTI for at least a year after CHTI is operational.
