It is situated in newly-built premises in Liverpool, adjacent to the Department of Ocean and Earth Sciences of the University of Liverpool. We seek a scientist to join POL's world-class sea-level science group to contribute to research on the interface of geodesy and sea level data sets. The successful candidate will work on areas of global geophysical geodesy that are important in our ability to understand and predict sea level change (GNSS, gravity, satellite gravity, altimetry, solid Earth loading). Applicants should be highly numerate, with a good honours degree in mathematics, engineering or science and a Ph.D. (or equivalent research experience) in geodesy or a closely related field. Experience and evidence of initiative, problem solving, ability to work independently and to write scientific research papers is required. The primary criterion for selection is the potential to make a strong contribution to the sea level group in the long term and to help set the direction of future research. Accordingly, applicants with a wide range of backgrounds will be considered, but a proven record of research and publication is expected, and experience of geophysics or geodesy, will be a definite advantage. Applicants with less experience but strong future potential will be considered for a post at Band 6. Starting salary at Band 5 level is #28,780 rising to #33,950 after 4 years. Starting salary at Band 6 level is #21,780 rising to #26,900 after 3 years. Benefits include a final salary pension scheme. Annual leave entitlement is 30 days paid holiday per year, plus staff are entitled to 10.5 public/privilege days holidays. There is a flexitime system in operation. As an Investor in People, we can assure you of the opportunity for further training and development. How to Apply. If you wish to apply please contact the Personnel Department, Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory, Joseph Proudman Building, 6 Brownlow Street, Liverpool L3 5DA, UK, telephone +44 (0) 151 795 4838/4841, or e-mail personnel@pol.ac.uk for an application form and further details.
