His or her duties will be (1) to promote the field of Satellite Geodesy and Earth System Science in the TU Berlin, faculty of Civil Engineering and Applied Geoscience (2 hours lecture per week), (2) to act as Director of Department 1 Geodesy and Remote Sensing at the GeoForschungsZentrum and (3) to lead one of the sections of that department, depending on the candidate's field of expertise. The candidate will also be expected to act as spokesman of the programme theme Global processes and Geomonitoring within the GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam. Qualifications: We seek an internationally recognized scientist with demonstrated capacity for interdisciplinary research and leadership ability, to direct a department with some 100 scientists and technicians. A Ph.D. in an appropriate academic field is required, as well as proven teaching ability and a record of excellence in research. The candidate will possess a broad range of expertise and have long-standing experience in physical geodesy and modelling of geoprocesses, and particularly with applications of satellite geodesy in the fields of geophysics, oceanography, meteorology and climate research. A record of success in funding through large international research programs is expected. The candidate must meet the conditions for professorial appointment specified in the Berlin code of higher education (Hochschulgesetz), § 100. The Technical University of Berlin and the GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam strive to increase the percentage of femal employees in academic teaching and research, and we particularly encourage applications from female candidates.
